GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's volleyball team earned their first win of the season with a dominating 3-0 sweep over the Curry College Colonels on Saturday in Gorham. The Huskies then dropped a hard-fought match to the Colby-Sawyer College Chargers 3-1 to end the tri-match with a 1-1 record.

Macie Ahmer (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake North) recorded 58 assists between the two matches to go along with 17 digs and six kills. Junior
Drew Johnson (Pismo Beach, Cali. /Brewer) totaled 24 kills on the day while senior
Madison Zimmer (Regina, Saskatchewan/Dr. Martin LeBoldus Catholic) had nine total blocks. Fifth-year senior
Sierra Castonguay (Nottingham, N.H./Dover) had eight aces on the day to surpass 100 in her career.

The Huskies are now 5-2 all-time against Curry. The Colonels won the first two matches of the series, but the Huskies have now won each of the last five.

How It Happened:
- A seven-point run while sophomore Amelia Beatty (Rochester, N.H./ Spaulding) was serving allowed the Huskies to take control early in the first set on their way to a 25-13 win. The Huskies had 10 kills in the set with four coming from freshman Ella Koehler (Pickerington, Ohio/Fairfield Christian Academy).
- The Huskies used an 8-0 run to turn a 14-10 lead into a 21-10 advantage to pull away in the second set. The run resulted in the Colonels using both their timeouts of the set. The Huskies took the set 25-14.
- Curry led 4-1 early in the third set before the Huskies compiled a 10-0 run that featured four consecutive aces by Castonguay. Curry threatened late but the Huskies scored the final five points of the match to complete the sweep with a 25-16 win.

- The Huskies led in blocks 6-1 thanks to four block assists from Zimmer and two each from Johnson and Ahmer. Sophomore Darrien Pugsley (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) had a solo block and a block assist.
- Johnson led all players in kills with nine followed by Koehler with eight. Koehler also added three aces.
- Kyah Earls and Meghan Abbott each had five kills for Curry.
- Ahmer had a game-leading eight digs and 18 assists.

Southern Maine and Colby-Sawyer have now played 13 times with the Huskies holding a 7-5 lead in the series. Today's win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Chargers in the series.

How It Happened:
- The Chargers won a marathon of an opening set 28-26. The team combined for 27 kills in the frame with 16 coming from the Chargers.
- Colby-Sawyer prevailed 25-21 in the second set in another back-and-forth battle.
- The Huskies avoided the sweep with a 25-16 win in the third set and never trailed after scoring the first three points of the set.
- The slugfest continued in the fourth set, but the Chargers escaped with a 26-24 win to take the match 3-1.

- Johnson led all players with 15 kills in the set. Ally Majenski and Katie Mollberg each had 13 for the Chargers.
- Sophomore Anyelis Hernandez (Lawrence, Mass.) had nine kills, a solo block and three block assists for 11.5 points.
- Audra Fontes recorded 26 while Koehler led the Huskies with 17.
- Ahmer recorded 40 assists in the match and also added five kills.
