Today's game marked the 20th meeting between the University of Southern Maine and Maine Maritime Academy. Southern Maine leads the overall series 11-5-3. Maine Maritime had won the last two consecutively, defeating the Huskies 1-0 in 2022 and 2-1 in 2023.
How It Happened:
- Manni scored his first goal of the season and the first goal of his Southern Maine career to put the Huskies ahead 1-0 in the fifth minute.
- Husky starting goalkeeper freshman Aldo Bryant (Fairhope, Ala./Bayside Academy) kept Southern Maine ahead for a majority of the first half with some solid play, including a diving save tipping a would-be goal over the cross bar in the 40th minute. Conceding a corner kick to deny the goal, Maine Maritime equalized on the play as James Baur cleaned up a loose ball in the box in the 41st minute to send the game into the half at 1-1.
- After a quiet start to the second half, Southern Maine retook the lead in the 57th minute as Manni secured the brace. Hitting a one-time shot to the far post, Manni finished a well-placed assist from sophomore Jonah Naratil (Porter, Maine/Sacopee Valley).
- USM led 2-1 late in the game, but the Mariners were able to come back and equalize in the 87th minute as Baur scored again for MMA.
