Castonguay Surpasses 1000 Career Digs in Loss to Suffolk

GORHAM, Maine – Fifth-year senior Sierra Castonguay (Nottingham, N.H./Dover) became the sixth player in University of Southern Maine history to reach 1,000 career digs with a 21-dig effort in a 3-1 loss to the Suffolk University Rams. Castognuay was not the only player to hit a major milestone in the contest as Suffolk's McKenna Keowen became the first player in her program's history to reach 1,000 career kills. Her 15 kills led all players.

Series History:

How It Happened:

  • The second set saw the Huskies race out to a 11-4 lead, but the Rams continued to work their way back and tied the score at 13-13. The lead changed several times throughout the rest of the set before Suffolk closed out the frame with a 26-24 win to go up 2-0.
  • The Huskies went ahead 15-7 with an 11-2 run in the third set only to see the Rams rip off a 7-0 run to tie the set at 15-all. Southern Maine scored the next three points on three attack errors by Suffolk and held on to force a fourth set with a 25-20 win. Sophomore Anyelis Hernandez (Lawrence, Mass.) had kills on the final three points of the set.
  • The Rams reestablished control with a 9-0 run to start the fourth set and went on the win 25-11 to win the match 3-1.
