Bowdoin Downs Southern Maine in Three Sets

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College Polar Bears defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's volleyball team in three sets on Wednesday night in a non-conference contest. Junior Drew Johnson (Pismo Beach, Cali. /Brewer) and Bowdoin's Skye LaMendola each led their team in kills with 10. Freshman Macie Ahmer (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake North) and Cameron Shelly tied for the most assists in the game with 18 apiece.

Bowdoin has extended its series lead to 23-6.
 
How It Happened:
  • The Polar Bears opened the first set on a 3-0 run, but the Huskies battled back to take an 8-6 lead thanks to three kills from Johnson and an ace by sophomore Anyelis Hernandez (Lawrence, Mass.). However, Bowdoin countered with an 8-1 run before the Huskies eventually cut the lead to a single point at 14-13. The hosts then used a timeout and closed out the set 25-14.
  • Bowdoin won the second set 25-11 and the third set by the same margin.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • Johnson led the Huskies in digs with 11. Maya White had 15 for Bowdoin.
  • Bowdoin led 8-1 in aces and 12-0 in blocks.
 
Up Next:
The Huskies will host Massachusetts Maritime Academy and Trinity College on Saturday in a tri-match. The team will face the Buccaneers at noon and the Bantams in the third match of the day.
