CASTINE, Maine – The Maine Maritime Academy Mariners defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies on Friday night at the Coast of Maine Classic in Castine, Maine. The game was the first of the season for both teams.

Series History:
Tonight's victory gives Maine Maritime a 12-11 lead in the all-time series. The Huskies will have a chance to even score on October 26 in Gorham.

How It Happened:
- The hosts won the first set 25-13. Sydney Williams had five kills in the set and the Mariners also had four aces in the frame. Sydney Rich and Ally Hadley each had two aces for Maine Maritime. Sophomore Amelia Beatty (Rochester, N.H./ Spaulding) had a run of three consecutive aces in the set.
- Southern Maine jumped out to a 15-7 lead in the second set with freshman Macie Ahmer (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake North) providing a spark with four aces and two assists. However, the Mariners used a 7-0 run to cut down the lead and eventually took the set 25-20.
- Maine Maritime completed the sweep with a 25-14 win in the third set.

Inside The Stats:
- Williams led all players with 13 kills. The Huskies were led by sophomore Anyelis Hernandez (Lawrence, Mass.) with five.
- Katie Albritton recorded 23 assists for the Mariners while Ahmer had 10 for the Huskies.
- The Huskies had a slight 11-10 lead in aces led by Ahmer's six.
- Fifth-year senior Sierra Castonguay (Nottingham, N.H./Dover) had a game-high nine digs.
