GORHAM, Maine – Trailing 2-1 after an own goal, the University of Southern Maine Huskies scored nine unanswered goals to defeat the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners 10-2 in a non-conference women's soccer game Friday night at Hannaford Field.

Catriona Gould (Freeport, Maine) had a hat trick and an assist becoming the Huskies' all-time leading goal scorer (46) and all-time leader in points (110), highlighting a strong offensive performance.

Ashley Sabatino (Scarborough, Maine) and
Riley Reitchel (Palermo, Maine/Erskine Academy) each added a goal. Freshman
Makyla Magid (Golden, Colo./Lakewood) had an impressive debut scoring twice for a brace, while classmate
Meghan Przybilla (St. Anthony, Minn./St. Anthony Village) added a goal and an assist. Junior
Julia Kratzer (Gorham, Maine) also had a goal, while rookie
Madi Sainis (Pierrefonds, Quebec) added an assist.

Facing each other for the eighth time in series history, Southern Maine leads the all-time series 7-0-1. Southern Maine and Maine Maritime last faced each other during the 2022 season, and the Huskies earned a 7-0 win. Maine Maritime earned a 1-1 draw during the 2018 season.
How It Happened:
- Gould put the Huskies up early scoring in the second minute to secure the Southern Maine goals' record, but Maine Maritime equalized on a strong effort from Taylor Webster in the 20th minute. Less than a minute later, the Mariners went ahead 2-1 on an Huskies' own goal following a direct quick awarded just outside of the box.
- The Huskies wasted little time finding the equalizer as Huntress headed in her first goal of the season off of an outstanding corner kick service from Gould in the 22nd minute.
- Southern Maine led the Mariners 4-2 at the break as Reitchel raced onto a ball played over the top from senior center back Mia Sargent (Portland, Maine) in the 23rd minute, and Gould scored her second goal of the half on an assist from Sabatino in the 44th minute.
- Gould locked up the hat trick in the in the 51st minute, making it 5-2, before Sabatino scored one of her own in 54th minute for a solid 6-2 lead.
- Magid scored the first of her two goals just three minutes after subbing onto the field making it 7-2 in the 68th minute. USM scored three more including Pryzbilla's intercollegiate first in the 89th minute for the 10-2 final.

- Gould's three goals gives her 46 in her career – a USM women's soccer record. Her assist is the 18th of her career, tying her for second in USM career records, while her 46 goals and 18 assists for 110 points is tops in program history.
- USM last scored 10 goals in a game in a 10-0 win over Mitchell on August 31, 2018.
