PORTLAND, Maine – The inaugural season of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's golf team began on Friday afternoon at Portland's Riverside Golf Course. Senior
Meaghan Dufresne (Mattapoisett, Mass./Old Rochester Regional) took the first shot in program history and finished the competition in fourth place with a score of 102 (+30). The top finisher for the Huskies was freshman
Ryley Meyer (North Sioux City, S.D./Dakota Valley). Meyer placed second with a score of 93 (+21).
The event featured a field of six Huskies and two participants from Saint Joseph's College of Maine. Reese Beaudoin from Saint Joseph's placed first with a score of 92 (+20). Sophomore
Belle Steeves (South Paris, Maine/Oxford Hills) finished third with a 95 (+23) on her scorecard.
Junior
Mackenzie Kingsbury (Woodsville, N.H.) was a stroke behind Dufresne at 103 (+31) and placed fifth. Averi Beaudoin from Saint Joseph's finished sixth with a score of 111 (+39). Sophomores
Meaghan May (Framingham, Mass) and
Mary Reilly-Heffernan (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Upper Moreland) rounded out the competition with scores of 116 (+44) and 118 (+46).
The next event for the Huskies is the John Queenan Memorial Invitational on Wednesday, September 4 at Point Sebago Golf Course.
