Madi Day (Otisfield, Maine/Oxford Hills) was 4-for-4 at the plate and the University of Southern Maine pounded out a season-high 17 hits to defeat the Western Connecticut State University Wolves 5-4 in game one of a Little East Conference doubleheader. WestConn took game two 2-1.

th meetings between the Huskies and the Wolves. WestConn leads the overall series 48-29, but the Huskies have won nine of the last 10. WestConn's win in game two is the first after a nine-game skid at the hands of Southern Maine.

How It Happened: Game One – Southern Maine 5, WestConn 4
- Senior Belle Snyder (Epping, N.H.) earned the win holding WestConn to three hits in 4.2 innings, and sophomore Lexus McIntosh picked up her third save of the season as the Huskies took a 5-4 win over WestConn in game one.
- The Huskies pounded out a season-high 17 hits in the victory. Senior Madi Day (Otisfield, Maine/Oxford Hills) was 4-for-4 with an RBI, four runs scored and a double to lead the way. Junior Abby Miner (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy), graduate student Hannah Shields (Buckfield, Maine), senior Rona Scott (Beverly, Mass.) and sophomore Olvia Levasseur (Amesbury, Mass.) each had two hits.
- USM took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Snyder led off with double, and Day followed with a double of her own to make it 1-0. With two outs, Scott singled in Day for a 2-0 Husky advantage.
- USM took a 3-0 lead in the top of the fifth, scoring one run on four hits. Singles from Miner, Day and Shields loaded the bases, but the Wolves turned two on the next batter to keep USM off the scoreboard. Senior Makena Mulcahy (Auburn, Mass.) drove in the Huskies' run with a single scoring day before WestConn ended the inning.
- WestConn pulled to within a run with a two-run, two-out single in the bottom of the fifth from Kendall Allen, but McIntosh entered for USM and ended the inning with a ground out to trail 3-2
- After a quiet sixth, USM scored two more runs in the top of the seventh to extend its lead to 5-2. Day singled to lead off and Shields followed with a double to drive in the Huskies' first run. Sophomore Mackenzie Renner (Alton, N.H./Prospect Mountain) had an RBI single to account for the Huskies fifth run of the game.
- Trailing 5-2, WestConn had a runner on first with two outs and Ushka had a home run to make it a 5-4, but McIntosh bounced back getting the ground out to keep the Huskies in front. .
How It Happened: Game Two – WestConn 2, Southern Maine 1
- WestConn starter Lindsay Farinaccio scattered eight hits and a walk over seven innings, holdling the Huskies to a single run as the Wolves earned a 2-1 win over USM in game two.
- The Wolves scored both of their runs early in the contest. Madison Zicchinelli had an RBI double in the bottom of the second, and Rachael Ushka had a RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third to put WestConn ahead 2-0.
- USM halved its deficit in the top of the sixth. Senior Hannah Shields (Buckfield, Maine) led off with a single and moved up to second and third on back-to-back fielder's choice plays. Senior Meaghan Dufresen (Mattapoisset, Mass.) picked up the RBI with a sac fly to right field.
- The Huskies threatened for the equalizer in the top of the seventh loading the bases on an error, a single from senior Belle Snyder (Epping, N.H) and another error, but WestConn got the next three outs consecutively to hold for the win.

Southern Maine's next contest will be at the 2024 Little East Conference Championship Tournament, beginning on Wednesday, May 8. Tournament seeds and pairings will be announced at the completion of the regular season on Saturday.
