35th Annual Husky Golf Classic Set for Monday, August 5 at Poland Spring Golf Course & Resort

GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine Athletics Department is excited to welcome back friends, alumni, business partners and more to the 35th Annual Husky Golf Classic on Monday, August 5 at the Poland Spring Golf Course and Resort. One of Maine's most historic golf courses, Poland Spring, an 18-hole, par 71, championship layout with a slope of 125, measuring 6,178 yards, has been the host site of the Husky Golf Classic for the last five years.

An annual event that directly supports the USM Athletics Department, its student-athletes and its many programs, the Husky Golf Classic has supported our intercollegiate team's budgets, the William B. Wise Scholar-Athlete awards banquet, Senior Honors Night, and directly supports our intercollegiate men's golf team. Recent iterations of the Husky Golf Classic helped raise funds to replace the synthetic turf on Hannaford Field, and to update the Costello Sports Complex Fitness Center with state-of-the-art strength training and cardio equipment. In addition to continuing to support the Huskies' men's golf program, the 2024 Husky Golf Classic will also be part of the fundraising process to support the University of Southern Maine's 23rd intercollegiate sport, women's golf, which will start its first varsity season in the fall under second-year head coach Brian Bickford.

"For more than 30 years now, the Husky Golf Classic has brought together so many people connected to USM Athletics. It is always a tremendous event filled with great golfing, and camaraderie," said University of Southern Maine Director of Athletics Al Bean. "Each summer the Husky Golf Classic is like a reunion event, and I am happy to see so many of our alumni, faculty, staff, sponsorship partners and friends of the program join in year after year.  We look forward to this event each year, and truly appreciate the generous and sustained support of so many in our extended Husky family."

This year's classic will be played as a four-player scramble, beginning at 10am, with prizes for 1st-3rd gross and net scores. Additional prizes will be awarded for the longest drive (men and women) and closest to the pin (men and women). The event will also feature a 50/50 Raffle, auction and door prizes, a putting contest, raffle prizes, and an hole-in-one shot for a new car.

A barbeque lunch will be served at two locations on the course from 11am-1pm, and a full dinner will be served at the conclusion of the event along with the awarding of prizes.

The Poland Spring Golf Course and Resort is generously offering a reduced rate ($129) for lodging at The Maine Inn the night before the tournament. For more information, call The Maine Inn at 207-998-4351.
