HOW IT HAPPENED:  Southern Maine 7  Husson 3
  • Carson started off strong retiring the first three Husson batters in order, and Southern Maine snagged a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from junior Anthony Poole (South Portland, Maine).  The Huskies jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on some two-out hitting.  Freshman John Poole (South Portland, Maine) had a two-out single to right and then stole second, before advancing to third on a passed ball. Sophomore Hunter Brissette (Lisbon, Maine/Lisbon Falls) put runners on the corners for the Huskies drawing a walk before Douin knocked a two-run RBI to the gap in left.
  • Carson worked through back-to-back singles and a walk in the third to keep the Eagles off the board with a double play and a strikeout, and benefitted from more solid defense in the fourth.  IN the top of the fifth, Carson sat the Eagles in order including back-to-back strikeouts to end the innings.
  • Southern Maine doubled its lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the fifth.  Douin led off the inning with a single and moved up to second when Anthony Poole was hit by a pitch.  With two on, and no outs, Seymour drilled a home run to the gap in right for three RBI.
  • USM tacked on one more run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 7-0.  USM used three hits, including an RBI single up the middle from Anthony Poole for its final run of the game.
  • Husson broke up the shut scoring a single run in the seventh, eighth and ninth inning.  Hunter Curtis had an RBI single in the seventh, while Matt Holmes had a solo home run in the eight. In the ninth, Curtis led off the inning with a solo shot to make it 7-3, but the Huskies were able to get out of the inning for the final.
