HOW IT HAPPENED: Southern Maine 11, MIT 7
- MIT took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single through the left side from Zev Moore. Moore drove in Teddy Schoenfeld who led off the game with a double.
- Poole quickly put Southern Maine back on top in the bottom of the inning with a three-run home run to the gap in left field. Sophomores Hunter Brisette (Lisbon, Maine/Lisbon Falls) and Kyle Douin (Augusta, Maine/Cony) led off the inning with walks to set the table for Poole.
- MIT scored three runs in the top of the second, and led Southern Maine 4-3 until the bottom of the third when the Huskies scored eight runs. Batting around its lineup, Southern Maine used four hits and five walks in the inning to put up the crooked number on the scoreboard.
- Poole had a two-run double in his first at bat of the inning, and sophomore Chris Quigley (Halifax, Mass./Silver Lake Regional) drove in two more with a two-run single to center field for a 7-4 USM lead. Fershman John Poole (South Portland, Maine) earned an RBI after being hit by a pitch, and Brissette drove in another with a RBI ground out. In his second at-bat of the inning, Poole laced a single to right field driving in another two runs for a 11-4 Husky lead.
- MIT scored twice in the fourth on a two-run single from Reed Tubbs, and another in the fifth following an RBI double to center from Lawrence Tang to trail 11-8, but the Engineers went down in order in the sixth, seventh and eighth inning. Sophomore Kyle Skolfield (Gorham, Maine) earned the win for the Huskies in relief pitching the sixth through eighth. He did not allow a base runner.
