No. 1 Endicott Pulls Away From Southern Maine 8-4

GORHAM, Maine   –   AJ Hamm had a two-run double to left field in the top of the seventh to give the No. 1 Endicott College Gulls the lead en route to an 8-4 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday afternoon at Ed Flaherty Field.

Southern Maine led the Gulls 4-3 after six innings, but Endicott used a three-hit top of the seventh to take the lead on Hamm's double, outscoring USM 5-0 in the final three innings for the win.

Husky starter freshman Carson Black (Porter, Maine/Sacopee Valley) had a strong outing. Black pitched 5.2 innings allowing three earned runs on six hits and four walks. He had five strikeouts.  Senior Christian Siciliano (Shrewsbury, Mass./St. John's) was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI to lead the Huskies, while senior Cam Seymour (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) went 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  No. 1 Endicott 8, Southern Maine 4
  • Both teams scored a run in the first inning with Seymour tying the game up at 1-1 with a two-out double to left.
  • Endicott took a 2-1 as Joey Frammartino connected on a lead off home run in the top of the third.  The Gulls looked poised for a big inning with runners on second and third with one out after the Frammartino home run, but Black bounced back with a strikeout and a pop out to keep it a one-run game.
  • The Huskies answered back with two runs in the home half of the third.  Seymour connected on another two-out double to put himself in scoring position before Siciliano put Southern Maine ahead 3-2 with a two-run shot over the left field fence.
  • Keeping things close, Endicott tied things up with a run in the top of the fifth. Danny McDougall led off the inning with an infield single, stole second and then advanced to third on a passed ball to help create a Gulls' scoring opportunity with one out, and Rob Wladkowski made it 3-3 with an RBI single into center field.
  • Southern Maine took its final lead of the game in the bottom of the sixth on a solid piece of two-out hitting from Brissette. With runners on first and second, Brissette sharply hit a ball to right center to score senior Lucas Francis (Lisbon, Maine/Lisbon Falls).  Francis reached with a single into right earlier in the inning.
  • USM's lead was short-lived however as the Gulls battled for two runs in the seventh off of Hamm's double for a 5-4 lead, and then extended their lead to 7-4 with two more in the top of the eighth. In the top of the ninth, Dylan Pacheco drove in the final run of the game with a sacrifice fly to left for the 8-4 final.
