HOW IT HAPPENED: Southern Maine 8, Bowdoin 2
- Closing out the top of the first with a double play, Southern Maine jumped on top of the Polar Bears 1-0 in its first at bat. Sophomore Hunter Brissette (Lisbon, Maine/Lisbon Falls) led off the inning with a single to left field and then crossed home plate following a Douin triple to right field.
- Miner kept the 1-0 lead working out of a bases-loaded situation with two outs in the top of the second picking uup a strikeout to end the inning. In the top of the third Miner took Bowdoin down in order.
- The Huskies broke the game open in the bottom of the third scoring five runs on four hits and three walks. USM loaded the bases on back-to-back singles from sophomores Dylan Firmin (Stratham, N.H./Exter) and Chris Quigley (Halifax, Mass./Silver Lake Regional) and a walk to Brissette. With no outs, Douin picked up two more RBI with a single to right for a 3-0 USM lead. Senior Christian Siciliano (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was hit by a pitch to earn an RBI, while senior Jack LeBlond (Lewiston, Maine/Bridgton Academy) made it 6-0 with an two-run single up the middle.
- USM scored its final two runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth to lead by a commanding 8-0 score. Brissette drew a one-out walk and was again driven home by Douin – this time on a double to the gap in left. Douin would be the Huskies' eighth run advancing to third on a wild pitch, and then scoring on a wild pitch before the inning ended.
- The score remained unchanged until the top of the seventh when Bowdoin broke up the shutout. Henry Bibeau led off the inning with a double, and moved up a base on a passed ball before scoring on a wild pitch. The Polar Bears added one more run in the top of the eighth when Kevin Murray hit a solo shot home run off of USM reliever senior Matt Burnett (Ellsworth, Maine). Burnett settled after the home run and got a pair of strikeouts and a pop out in his inning of work.
- Leading 8-2 in the top of the ninth, USM senior Lucas Francis (Lisbon, Maine) closed the door on the game getting a pair of ground outs and a pop up.
