How It Happened:
- Southern Maine struck first in the high-scoring game, taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the first as seniors Cam Seymour (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) and Lucas Francis (Lisbon, Maine) each had RBI singles, while Poole collected his first RBI of the game with an RBI ground out. Fitchburg equalized in the bottom of the first, however, as Adam Koza struck for a three-run home run.
- USM regained the lead with two more runs in the top of the second. Sophomore Hunter Brissette (Lisbon, Maine) and Poole each had an RBI double in the inning for a 5-3 game. Husky starter senior Bryce Afthim (Windham, Maine) worked around an error and a walk in the bottom of the second, getting three strikeouts.
- The third ended with the Huskies on 6-4, as Brissette came through for a two-out double down the left field line, and Matthew Smith had an RBI fielder's choice for the Falcons.
- Following a scoreless fourth, USM tacked on another run in the top of the fifth with an RBI fielder's choice from Dylan Firmin that scored senior Jack LeBlond (Lewiston, Maine/Bridgton Academy). LeBlond led off the inning with a sing and moved to third on a single from Francis for a 7-4 score.
- In the sixth LeBlond had an RBI sacrifice fly driving in Seymour who reached on an error putting USM ahead 8-4, but the Falcons took two back in the home half of the inning to trail 8-6. Matthew Kelly drove in both runs with a home run. Afthim bounced back working around a single and a walk recording the final two outs via strikeout.
- The Huskies put up a crooked number on the Falcons in the top of the fifth, scoring five runs, to surge ahead 13-6. Loading the bases on two walks and a single, Brissette drove in the first run with an RBI sacrifice fly to center, while Douin reached on an error while driving in the second run. With two runners on, the Falcons picked up the second out, but Poole cleaned it up drilling a three-run home run to left.
- Fitchburg State picked up one run on Husky reliever sophomore Kyle Skolfield (Gorham, Maine) who started the seventh. Kelly had a two out single to center for a 13-7 game, but Skolfield answered back with a strikeout to end the inning.
- USM junior Joe Bova (Boston, Mass./The Winchendon School) drove in the Huskies final run of the game in the eighth inning. Francis led off the inning but stayed at first as Fitchburg recorded a pair of outs; however, Bova laced a triple to the gap in left for a 14-7 USM lead.
- The Falcons scored twice in the eight off of the bat of Koza who connected on his second home run of the game, but Francis came on in relief of Skolfield and recorded a pair of ground outs to keep it a 14-9 game. After a scoreless top of the ninth for USM, Francis held the Falcons to a two-out single before shutting the door on the game.
