How It Happened:
  • Rowan scored an unearned run in the first, and then made it 2-0 in the second before adding four runs in the top of the third to tip the game in its favor 6-0.  Jason Morgan had an RBI triple, Nick Struble had an RBI double, and Maria had an RBI single to highlight a four-hit inning for Rowan.
  • After a scoreless fourth and fifth, Rowan upped its lead 8-0 over the Huskies in the sixth. Joey Bogart had a solo homerun, while Anthony Schooley had an RBI double.
  • Southern Maine sophomore Kyle Douin (Augusta, Maine/Cony) broke up the shutout with a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the seventh.
  • Rowan took the run back in the top of the eighth on a solo shot from Maria, making it a 9-1 game.  However, Southern Maine answered back with four runs in the bottom of the inning to make it a four-run game, 9-5. USM started the inning with back-to-back singles from sophomore Dylan Firmin (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) and junior Joe Bova (Boston, Mass./The Winchendon School), and sophomore Hunter Brissette (Lisbon, Maine/Lisbon Falls) drew a no-out walk to load the bases.  With the bases full, Douin collected his second home run of the game and fourth of the season, scoring four runs for the Huskies. Rowan was able to get out of the inning after Douin's grand slam to move to the ninth.
  • Rowan went down in order in the top of the ninth, but the Huskies were only able to get one baserunner, a single from Bova, as the game went final

Inside the Stats:
  • Douin's two homeruns gives him four on the season and nine in his career.  He is the first Husky batter to connect on a grand slam since Jason Komulainen did the same against Plymouth State on May 3, 2022.
