Nick James (Portland, Maine/Deering) scored four times and assisted on three goals to help power the University of Southern Maine Huskies to 17-12 win over the Anna Maria College AMCATS on Wednesday afternoon in the season-opener for the Huskies. James was one of five Huskies with multiple points in the game. Senior

Spencer Carpenter paced the AMCATS offense with five goals while Liam Bedenkop had three goals and an assist. Naje Wray and Ethan Quinn each scored twice for Anna Maria and Wray also assisted on a goal.

How It Happened:
- Wetmore scored the first goal of the season for the Huskies 2:01 into the first quarter. Anna Maria took the lead with goals from Wray and Carpenter before O'Driscoll scored with a man-up for the first goal of his career to tie the score at 2-2. Bedenkop gave the visitors a 3-2 lead before the Huskies retook the lead with quick goals from Zunser and Gaulrapp and closed out the first 15 minutes of action leading 4-3.
- O'Driscoll scored twice in the second quarter and the Huskies also had goals from Zunser and James to take a 8-5 lead into halftime. Carpenter and Wray had goals for Anna Maria in the stanza.
- The two teams combined for nine goals in the third quarter with Anna Maria scoring five and the Huskies countering with four. Wetmore, Quinn and Carpenter each scored twice in the quarter.
- The Huskies opened the final quarter with three goals in the four minutes to pull away from the AMCATS. James accounted for two and Gaulrapp netted the other. Anna Maria added two more goals before Contreras found the back of the net twice and put the game out of reach.

Inside The Stats:
- The AMCATS won 24-of-30 faceoffs with 23Â coming from Nathan Powers. The majority of Powers' 15 ground balls came on faceoff wins.
- Southern Maine scored three times with a man up while the AMCATS scored twice and had a down goal.
- Freshman Iyah Lavit (Hancock, Vt./ Harwood Union) caused two turnovers and had five ground balls in a strong collegiate debut.
- Freshman Adam Coley (Valencia, Cail./Cheshire) recorded the first point of his career with an assist on one of Wetmore's goals.
- James now has 97 career assists and is one away from tying Keegan Smith's program record set from 2014-2017.
