Soaring Eagles Defeat Huskies 2-1

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – Senior captain Ally Stymiest (Moncton, New Brunswick/Mount Academy) scored her seventh goal of the season on Saturday as the University of Southern Maine Huskies fell to the No. 11 Elmira College Soaring Eagles by a score of 2-1. Stymiest now has seven goals through the first 11 games of the season and has already reached a new career-high by topping her six goals from the 2021-22 season.
 
Fifth year senior Haley McKim (Moncton, New Brunswick/Mount Academy) turned in another workhorse performance in net with 45 saves. Sara Sevcikova made eight saves for Elmira. Elmira had goals from Mo McBride and Alayna Toole.

Series History:
Elmira has now extended their series lead to 7-1-1.

How It Happened:
  • McKim made 14 stops in a scoreless first period despite the Huskies being outshot 14-1.
  • The first goal of the game came 15:14 into the second period when McBride snuck one past McKim. The assists on the goal went to MK Boyle and Annie Audet.
  • O'Toole scored 1:39 into the third period to double the lead.
  • Stymiest netted her fourth power-play goal of the season 8:19 into the third period with an assist by junior Saige MacLeod (Dryden, Ontario).
  • McKim recorded 19 saves in the third period.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • Elmira had a 47-9 advantage in shots on goal and led 42-17 in faceoffs.
  • Senior Amelie St-Amant (Ottawa, Ontario/ Ontario Hockey Academy) had another great defensive game with five block shots. The Huskies blocked 10 shots in total.
  • Stymiest's four power-play goals this season are tied for fifth in program history. Holly Manning holds the single-season record with seven during the 1999-2000 season.
  • Stymiest and MacLeod are tied for the most points on the team this season with seven each.
