Bowdoin Hands Southern Maine 5-0 Loss

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The No. 14 Bowdoin College Polar Bears set the tone early with two first-period goals from Ava Provenzo in a 5-0 non-conference win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies on Tuesday night. Provenzo went on to score another goal in the third period to complete the hat trick and also added an assist. Luna Lu and Bella Mele each contributed two assists on the night.

The two Maine schools have now played 32 times. Bowdoin leads the series 27-2-3.

Southern Maine: Haley McKim (4-5-2): 59:57, five goals allowed, 45 saves

How It Happened:
  • Provenzo's first goal came 55 seconds after the opening puck drop and she added a second just under eight minutes later to give the Polar Bears a 2-0 lead. Jackie Miller and Bella Mele assisted on the first goal while Jane McCarter had the assist on the second score.
  • Gia Massari scored quickly into a power-play opportunity to put Bowdoin up 3-0 8:56 into the second period.
  • Bowdoin scored twice in the final five minutes for the 5-0 final. Provenzo had the first and Meghan Britt scored the second. Lu assisted on both goals.
