Colby Defeats Southern Maine 2-0

GORHAM, Maine – Molly Lefebvre and Audrey Shirer scored goals for the Colby College Mules in a 2-0 non-conference win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies on Tuesday evening in Gorham. Mandy Busky faced just seven shots on goal but stopped them all to earn the win for the Mules. Southern Maine's Haley McKim (Moncton, New Brunswick/Mount Academy) had 42 saves in the loss with 18 coming in the third period.

How It Happened:
  • Lefebvre's goal came 5:59 into the first period. She collected a long pass from Georgia Pettygrove along sideboard and got around a defender before shooting the puck past McKim. The Mules went into the first intermission leading 1-0 despite McKim making 12 saves in the period.
  • Colby scored another goal early in the second period when Shirer flipped the puck past McKim and into the net from short-range 3:32 into the period. Maria Pierce recorded the assist on the goal. The Huskies put just two shots on goal in the period and their best scoring chance came halfway through the period on a breakaway by junior Olivia Stewart (Fredericton, New Brunswick/Mount Academy) but her shot missed the net.
  • Neither team scored in the third period.
