Huskies Complete Series Sweep with 4-0 Win Against Pilgrims

HENNIKER, N.H.– Fifth year senior goaltender Haley McKim (Moncton, New Brunswick/Mount Academy) recorded her first shutout of the season and sophomore Shannon Murphy (Pembroke, Mass./Brewster Academy) had a goal and an assist for the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's ice hockey team in a 4-0 win over the New England College Pilgrims on Saturday afternoon. Senior captain Ally Stymiest (Moncton, New Brunswick/Mount Academy) and junior Saige MacLeod (Dryden, Ontario) each scored for the second consecutive game and senior Jillian Jackson (Fredericton, New Brunswick/Ontario Hockey Academy) also had a goal for the Huskies.

McKim recorded the 17th shutout of her career with a 15-save performance. McKim broke the program record for career last season along with the record for most in a single season with seven.

New England College: Lucy Armour (0-5-0): 60:00, four goals allowed, 39 saves

How It Happened:
  • Sytmiest scored with 1:17 left in the first period to put the Huskies up 1-0. Murphy had the assist for her first point of the season. Her goal was only one of the period.
  • MacLeod collected the puck behind the Pilgrim's net and wheeled around the New England College defense before firing a shot past Armour for her second goal of the weekend with 15:50 left in the second period.
  • The Huskies' third goal came on a breakaway by Jackson that was set up after the Pilgrims could not control the puck following a faceoff in the Southern Maine end of the ice. Senior Madelyn McLeish (Dedham, Mass.) had the pass that sprung Jackson.
  • The Pilgrims had just five shots on goal through the first two periods while the Huskies put 30 shots on goal. The third period saw the Pilgrims ramp up their offensive efforts with 10 shots on goal, but they were still unable to get one past McKim.
  • Murphy scored her first goal of the season with 1:43 left in the game after a pass by senior Amelie St-Amant (Ottawa, Ontario/ Ontario Hockey Academy) was deflected and bounced to her with a clear path to the net. The assist is St-Amant's first point of the season.
