Brady Saunders (Brewer, Maine) poured in 34 points to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 103-90 win over the UMaine Farmington Beavers in a non-conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Dearborn Gymnasium.
Juniors
Diego Colon (New Braunfels, Texas) and
Thomas Whelan (Bronx, NY/Forham Prep) added 19 and 18 points respectively as the Huskies shot more than 60 percent from the field for the game. Whelan added eight boards and five assists to his totals.

Today's game marked the 102nd match-up between the University of Southern Maine Huskies and the UMaine Farmington Beavers. The Huskies lead the overall series 74-28. UMaine Farmington earned the 77-63 win over the Huskies on November 29, 2023.
How It Happened:
- In a closely contest first half, Southern Maine trailed the Beavers 29-25 with 5:49 remaining until the halftime break as UMF scored on back-to-back buckets (a layup and a three) from Jason Reynolds.
- The Huskies closed the gap and surged ahead of the Beavers outscoring UMF 25-14 in the final five minutes of action to take a 50-43 lead at the half. The Huskies were 10-for-11 from the field during that stretch, including a perfect 5-for-5 from three. Saunders had 11 points in the run, while Colon added nine.
- Southern Maine won the first five minutes of the second half, outscoring UMF 12-5 to balloon its lead to 62-49 with 15:11 to play. Lausier scored six of his 25 in the opening run.
- The Huskies stayed comfortably in front of UMaine Farmington for a majority of the half leading by between 12 and 17 points for a majority of time. Saunder's two free throws with 5:30 to play for his 34 points of the game had Southern Maine ahead by 20, 91-71, before UMaine Farmington put together one final push.
- Down by 20, the Beavers used a 14-2 run over the next 2:56 to trail the Huskies by eight, 93-85, with 2:20 to play. Zach McLaughlin led the Beavers with 10 points as UMF shot 5-for-7 from the field in the run. Conversely, the Huskies went 1-for-3 with a trio of turnovers during that stretch.
- With the lead more than halved, Lausier stopped the UMF surge with a layup to start a 10-3 Husky run over the next 1:53 to close out the game. Colon score six of USM's points in the run while Lausier had four.

- Lausier has recorded four consecutive double-doubles to start the 2024-2025 season and is averaging 21.3 points and 13.5 rebounds per game. Tonight's 16 rebounds are a season-high.
- Saunder's second 30-plus point game of the season has him with 96 points in three games. He is at 376 points in his 30-game career. He is averaging 20.7 points per game
- Southern Maine shot a red-hot 63.3 percent (38-for-60) from the field for the game, and was 14-for-24 from three.
