GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine women's volleyball hosted Keene State College and Maine Maritime Academy in a tri-match on Saturday in Gorham's Hill Gym. The Huskies fought hard but lost each match in three sets. Freshman
Macie Ahmer (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake North) had at least 10 assists in each match while fifth-year senior
Sierra Castonguay (Nottingham, N.H./Dover) recorded 10 or more digs in both contests.

How It Happened:
- Keene State took the opening set 25-16. The score was close through the early part of the set, but the Owls pulled away with a 4-0 run to go up 15-9. They then had a late 5-0 surge to go ahead by 10 points and closed out the set shortly after.
- The Huskies scored the first three points of the second set and remained ahead until an eight-point rally gave the Owls a 15-11 lead. Keene State went on to win the set 25-15.
- The Owls recorded a .486 hitting percentage in the final set with 19 kills against one error and ended the match with a 25-14 win in the set.

Inside The Stats:
- Stephanie Olah was one of three Owls with 10 or more kills after posting a game-high 12. Gigi Stake added 11 and Marina Miller recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs.
- Theresa Norris led all players in digs with 17. Castonguay led the Huskies with 10 followed by junior Drew Johnson (Pismo Beach, Cali. /Brewer) with nine.
- Alexis Small had 33 assists for the Owls while Ahmer led the Huskies with 12.
- Freshman Ella Koehler (Pickerington, Ohio/Fairfield Christian Academy) and sophomore Anyelis Hernandez (Lawrence, Mass.) each had five kills for Southern Maine.

Maine Maritime now holds a 13-11 lead in the all-time series and won both meetings this season.

How It Happened:
- The first set was a slugfest that saw seven lead changes before the Mariner prevailed 25-20. Maine Maritime ended the set on an 8-1 run that allowed them to take the lead for the final time. Sydney Williams led the Mariners with five kills in the set and Chloe Weeks added four.
- The Mariners broke a 6-6 tie with a 5-0 run and held on to the lead for the rest of the set for a 25-15 victory. A 4-0 run that featured two aces from Johnson helped the Huskies close the gap before the Mariners closed out the set by scoring eight of the final 10 points.
- The third set was another marathon battle. Neither team was able to win consecutive points until the Mariners put together a 5-0 run to take a 10-6 lead. The Huskies took the lead back at 13-12 with a 4-0 run only to see the Mariners score twice to go up 14-13. However, Southern Maine pulled back ahead 16-14 with a 3-0 before the Mariners tied the score at 16-16. The lead continued to fluctuate before the Mariners came out with a 25-23 win to sweep the match.

- Williams had a double-double for the Mariners with 14 kills and 10 digs. Weeks placed second on her team in kills with eight.
- Johnson led the Huskies in kills with seven and added six digs.

Southern Maine is off until next Saturday, November 2 when they head to Western Connecticut State University for a tri-match. The Huskies will play the Wolves at noon and then play William Paterson University at 2:00 pm.
