Plymouth State Shuts Out Southern Maine 4-0


 
PLYMOUTH, N.H.  – Faisal Adballah scored twice and Nicolas Cornejo made seven saves to lead the Plymouth State University Panthers to a 4-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's soccer game Wednesday night at Hannaford Field.
 
Plymouth State scored three goals in the first half, scoring all three in an eight minute span to earn the road conference win.

Today's game marked the 77th meeting between the University of Southern Maine and Plymouth State University. The Panthers lead the overall series 57-15-5.  In the last six seasons the Huskies are 2-2-2 against Plymouth State. Both teams played to a scoreless draw in 2022, and Southern Maine earned a 3-2 win on the road in 2023.
 
How It Happened
  • Battling through a scoreless opening 37 minutes, Lucas Houghton put the Panthers on top in the 38th minute scoring his second goal of the season off of an assist from Massimo Korcsog.
  • Two minutes later, Abdallah ran onto a well-timed through ball in the 39th minute from Sondre Asheim for 2-0 PSU advantage.  Abdallah scored again in the 44th to give PSU a 3-0 lead at the break volleying in his sixth goal of the season following a corner kick service from August Westerholm.
  • A miscue in the back in the 66th minute led to a Southern Maine own goal for the 4-0 final.

Southern Maine is back at home on Wednesday, October 9 (6:00 pm) against non-conference opponent UMaine Farmington. The Huskies have back-to-back home game October 12-13, hosting Rhode Island College on Saturday (1:00 pm) and Thomas College on Sunday (4:00 pm).
