BOSTON – Rafael Gross scored twice in the opening seven minutes of play to lead the UMass Boston Beacons to a 5-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in Little East Conference men's soccer action Wednesday afternoon.
The Beacons had four different goal scorers in the game, while Eduardo Chirico had a pair of assists.

Today's game marked the 42nd meeting between the UMass Boston Beacons and the University of Southern Maine Huskies. UMass Boston leads the overall series 26-14-2. The Beacons have won 12 consecutively over the Huskies. UMB defeated Southern Maine 2-1 in 2023 . Southern Maine last defeated UMB, 1-0, on September 29, 2012.
How It Happened
- Gross gave the Beacons an early 1-0 lead scoring the first of his two goals in the sixth minute, and quickly earned the brace with his second goal of the game in the seventh minute.
- UMass Boston took a 3-0 lead into halftime as Nathaniel Wong scored his first goal of the season in the 30th minute.
- The Beacons made it 4-0 in the 70th as Chirico assisted on his second goal of the game finding the foot of Patrick Garcia. UMB put an exclamation point on the game in the 87th minute as Amir Lahkiky hit a bending ball from distance for his first goal of the season and a 5-0 final.
