How It Happened
- Both teams had numerous opportunities to net the first goal of the contest in busy opening 25 minutes of play that included a combined seven corners and 11 shots. The Huskies started the game with a bevy of activity in their offensive third, including a well-worked attempt from junior Kristoff Manni (Vandalia, Ohio/Vandalia Butler) that was stopped by Fischer.
- The Terriers broke through for the lone goal of the contest in the 28th minute. Clugh gathered a misplayed ball in the back, and held strong with some individual work to get the ball to the near side before beating USM's Aldo Bryant (Fairhope, Ala./Bayside Academy) for the goal.
- The Huskies' Alex Graver (Kingston, Jamaica/Jamaica College) nearly had an equalizer with a long distance strike with just over 30 seconds remaining but Fischer was able to turn the shot aside to keep the 1-0 game.
- Southern Maine controlled possession and dominated play in the second half, outshooting Thomas 12-4 and outpacing the Terriers 6-1 in corner kicks, but were unable to get one past Fischer who made five second half saves.
- Southern Maine closed out the game with several chances. Husky sophomore Jonah Naratil (Porter, Maine/Sacopee Valley) had a great look at a goal in the 55th minute, but his header glanced off the post. In the final minute of the game, Southern Maine earned back-to-back corners, and senior Vincent Anderson's (Anchorage, Alaska) half-volley missed just wide.
