GORHAM, Maine – Rebecca Minaya and Emma Sanson each scored twice, including first quarter goals, to lead the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors to a fast start and a 4-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference field hockey contest Saturday afternoon.

Today's game marked the 27
th meeting between the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors and the University of Southern Maine Huskies. Southern Maine leads the overall series 21-6. Southern Maine defeated ECSU 3-1 in 2022, and 3-0 in 2023. The Warriors earned a 3-2 double overtime win in 2021.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Minaya scored in the third minute to put the Warriors up early 1-0, and Sanson scored the first of her two goals in the game just before the end of the opening quarter to buoy ECSU 2-0.
- The score remained unchanged through the half as both teams combined for just three shots in the second quarter. ECSU led in shots 2-1 in the second quarter, and 7-1 in the half.
- ECSU took a 3-0 lead in the 38th minute as Sanson scored her second goal of the game, and sixth of the season.
- The Huskies took one back just before the end of the third quarter to make it 3-1. Freshman Leah Thibodeau (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) scored her second goal of the season off of an assist from sophomore Norie Tibbetts (Skowhegan, Maine). However, Minaya added her second of the game in the 52nd minute to close the door on the game, 4-1.
