Huskies’ Chance Dixon Named Little East Conference Player of the Week

GORHAM, Maine  –  Senior guard Chance Dixon (Lake Worth, Fla./Santaluces) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's basketball team has been named the Little East Conference Player of the Week.  It is the first time this season that Dixon has earned conference weekly accolades. Dixon is the second Husky men's basketball player to be recognized by the LEC, joining freshman Brady Saunders (Brewer, Maine), who was twice named the rookie of the week.
 
In a 1-1 week in Little East Conference action, Dixon averaged 23.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game while shooting an outstanding 60.0 percent (18-for-30) from the field, including a strong 57.1 percent (8-for-14) from three.  On the road at Rhode Island College, Dixon shot 9-for-19 from the floor for 22 points, adding a team-high nine rebounds. In a win at Eastern Connecticut, Dixon was a remarkable 9-for-11 (81.8 percent) shooting, including a 4-for-4 mark from three-point range, adding three rebounds and two assists.
 
Recently surpassing the 1000-point mark in his career, Dixon is averaging a team-leading 18.1 points per game, in addition to 4.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, while shooting 46.1 percent from the field and 36.0 percent from three-point range.  In his career, Dixon has 1053 points, 206 rebounds, 135 assists, and 77 steals.
 
The Huskies are at home on Wednesday, January 31 (7:30 pm) against UMass Boston.  Southern Maine is on the road for its next two contests at Western Connecticut on Saturday, February 3 (3:00 pm) and at UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, February 10 (3:00 pm).
