Johnson & Wales Defeats Southern Maine 2-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I.  –  Margaret Johnson and Izzy Ward each scored in the second quarter to lead the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats to a 2-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference field hockey game Sunday afternoon at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
 
Today's game is the fourth contest in six games for the Huskies, who conclude the week 2-2, including wins over Salem State (3-1) and Husson University (3-2 overtime). Southern Maine faced WNEU on Saturday, falling 3-1.

Today's game marked the second meeting between the University of Southern Maine and Johnson & Wales University.  Southern Maine last faced JWU at home on August 31, 2019.  The Huskies won 3-1.
 
How It Happened:
  • After a scoreless first quarter, Johnson and Wales broke through late in the second. Johnson scored on a redirected pass in from a short corner in the 27th minute. She was assisted by Zofia Banga and Mackenzie Wolf for her ninth goal of the season. 
  • JWU doubled its lead right before halftime as Izzy Ward collected a rebounding ball and scored in the 30th minute for her first goal of the season.

Up Next:
The Huskies are back at home on Tuesday, September 26 (7:00 pm) against Endicott College before opening their Little East Conference schedule at home against Keene State (3:00 pm).  The Huskies will be honoring the 20th anniversary of their 2003 Little East Conference Championship team following the game.
