Endicott Shoots Past Southern Maine 4-1


GORHAM, Maine  –  Kathleen Reissfelder scored twice and Alexis DeMattia made nine saves to lead the Endicott College Gulls to a 4-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference field hockey game Tuesday night at Hannaford Field.

Tonight's game marked the third meeting between the University of Southern Maine and Endicott College.  The Gulls have won the previous two matchups and lead the series 3-0.  Endicott defeated Southern Maine 4-0 on October 27, 2022 in the last meeting.
 
How It Happened:
  • Endicott scored early taking a 1-0 lead on Maddy Dengler's seventh goal of the season. Dengler received a pass out wide from Seibold for the scoring opportunity in the fourth minute.
  • The Gulls doubled their lead in the 21st minute when Lindsay Bruns finished an assist from Tori Swanson. Before Reissfelder scored in the 25th minute for a 3-0 lead and the first of her two goals in the game.
  • Keeping pace with the Gulls in shooting in the second half, Southern Maine kept Endicott off the board, and erased the shutout in the third quarter.  Husky freshman Norie Tibbets (Skowhegan, Maine) scored her third goal of the season, collecting a loose ball in the circle and pushing it past DeMattia for a 3-1 game.
  • Husky goalkeeper sophomore Eleanor Foster (Winthrop, Maine) made eight savews in each half, including six in the third.  She was aided by one of three defensive assists from rookie back Jenessa Foster (Pittsfield, Maine/Maine Central Institute).
  • The Gulls wasted little time getting on the board in the fourth, as Reissfelder knocked in her eighth goal of the season and second goal of the game in the 48th minute for the 4-1 final.

Inside The Statistics:
  • Tonight's loss is the first of the season for the Huskies at home on Hannaford Field.  Southern Maine is 5-1 when playing at home in 2023. . 
  • Tibbets' goal is the third of the season for the Huskies' freshman.
  • Folsom's 12 saves are a season-high for the sophomore.
  • With three defensive saves in today's game, Foster has five on the season.
 
Up Next:
Southern Maine opens its Little East Conference schedule at home against Keene State (3:00 pm) on Saturday.  The Huskies will be honoring the 20th anniversary of their 2003 Little East Conference Championship team during the game.  The Huskies are back on the road in non-conference action on Wednesday, October 4 (7:00 pm) at Westfield State.
