WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College Terriers defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 7-2 on Tuesday evening in women's tennis action. Thomas improves to 4-4 on the season while the Huskies drop to 0-4. Sophomores 
Abby Emerson (Gorham, Maine) and 
Muriel Lattin (Litchfield, Maine) each won matches for Southern Maine.
 
The Terriers swept the doubles portion of the match with Lauren Smith and Riley Pierce defeating Emerson and junior 
Rebecca Hamel (Windham, Maine) 8-4 at number one doubles. 8-4 was also the final score in second doubles as Keira Gilman and Libby Forgues beat senior 
Maggie Brock (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) and junior 
Chloe McVetty (Windham, Maine). The Thomas duo of Tracy Lopez and Renée Rossi won the number three doubles match 8-0 over Lattin and sophomore 
Olivia Vance (Winthrop, Maine).
 
Emerson made her number one singles debut and extended her singles winning streak to four matches with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Smith. Lattin picked up her second win of the season by defeating Rossi 6-2, 6-4 at number five singles. At number two singles Pierce eked out a 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 win over Hamel. Number three singles saw Gilman defeat Brock 6-0, 6-2 and at fourth singles Forgues beat McVetty 6-0, 6-2. Vance suffered a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Lopez in the final singles match.
 
The next match for the Huskies will be on Saturday at Rhode Island College at 1:00 pm.
