Warriors Blank Southern Maine 4-0

WILLAMANTIC, Conn.  – The Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors scored three first half goals and had four different goal scorers to defeat the University of Southern Maine Huskies 4-0 in a Little East Conference men's soccer game Friday afternoon at Thomas Nevers Field.

Eastern Connecticut (1-1-1, 1-0-0 LEC)
 
Today's game marked the 41st minute between the University of Southern Maine and Eastern Connecticut State University. The Warriors have won the last 15 consecutively over the Huskies and lead the overall series 32-6-3. 
 
How It Happened:
  • After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, ECSU broke through for its first goal of the game as Sean Cafferty collected the rebound off of his own shot for his first goal of the season in the 27th minute.
  • The Warriors went ahead 2-0 in the 33rd on a goal from Richard McDaniel before taking a 3-0 lead in the final minutes of the half as Christian Mendoza hit one to the upper corner of the net on an assist from Caferty and Ryan Toomey.
  • ECSU made it 4-0 in the 56th minute as Josh Bouchard laced an upper-90 shot from the 18 for the final goal of the game.

Inside The Stats:
  • The Warriors outshot Southern Maine 18-4 (6-2 on goal), including 12-1 in the first half.  The Huskies registered three of their four shots in the game in the second half.
 
Up Next:
The Huskies remain on the road for Sunday (3:30 pm) at Maine Maritime Academy. Southern Maine returns to Hannaford Field on Wednesday (7:00 pm) against Bowdoin College and then hosts UMass Dartmouth on Saturday (1:00 pm) in a Little East Conference game.
