Late Goals Lift Colby Over Southern Maine 4-0

WATERVILLE, Maine  - Nicholas Donnelly scored three second half goals to lead the Colby College Mules to a 4-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference men's soccer game Monday afternoon at Serdjenian Field.

Today's game is the 43rd meeting between the University of Southern Maine and the Colby College Mules.  Colby leads the overall series 32-7-4.  It is the first meeting between the Huskies and the Mules since September 23, 2014 – a 2-0 result in favor of Colby. Southern Maine last defeated Colby on September 30, 2009 by the score of 3-0.
 
How It Happened:
  • After battling through a scoreless first half, Colby broke through for the first goal of the game in the 63rd minute as Donnelly tallied his first goal of 2023.
  • The Huskies nearly had the equalizer in the 68th minute as a shot from freshman Khalid Hersi (Lewiston, Maine) rang off of the Colby cross bar; however, the Mules responded making it 2-0 in the 70th minute on a goal from Joseph Beshel.
  • Donnelly scored two more times in the final 20 minutes to secure the 4-0 win for the Mules.  He picked up the brace in the 73rd minute and then added another in the 88th.

Inside The Stats:
  •  Colby outshot the Huskies 17-4 (7-1 on frame). Southern Maine had three second half attempts. The Mules also had a 5-1 lead in corner kicks.
 
Up Next:
Southern Maine is off until Saturday (12:00 pm). The Huskies will travel to Eastern Connecticut State University to start their Little East Conference schedule.  The Huskies remain on the road for Sunday (3:30 pm) at Maine Maritime Academy.
