GORHAM, Maine – Senior
Catriona Gould (Freeport, Maine) scored the first and last goal of the game to record the brace and lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a season-opening 4-0 win over the Marian University (Wisconsin) Sabres Friday afternoon at Hannaford Field.
Today's contest is the first for the Huskies against the Sabres. Both teams are playing in their season opener.

How It Happened:
- Gould opened the scoring in the 21st minute with an outstanding individual effort to put the Huskies up 1-0. Sophomore Emma Bosworth (Lindale, Texas) gave Southern Maine a 2-0 advantage with just second remaining for the half, scoring her first intercollegiate goal with the clock reading 44:49.
- The Huskies outshot the Sabres 17-1 (12-0 on goal) in the opening half, but Marian goalkeeper Chelsea King was outstanding in net making 10 first half saves, including a pair of diving far-post stops.
- The Huskies wasted little time making it 3-0 as sophomore Riley Reitchel (Palermo, Maine) ran onto a well-placed lofted ball from senior Mia Sargent (Portland, Maine/Deering) in the 47th minute.
- Gould made it 4-0 in the 64th minute, completing an assist from senior Eliza Roy (Camden, Maine/Camden Hills).

- Under head coach Seth Benjamin, Southern Maine has won each of its first contests of the season, earning wins over Mitchell in 2018, Thomas in 2019, Thomas in 2021, Clark in 2022. With tonight's 4-0 win, the Huskies have outscored its first opponent of each season under the Benjamin era by a score of 25-0.
- Atwood has 176 career saves and is ranked 12th all-time in program history. She is 28-8-2 in goal.
- Gould has 32 career goals, and is currently second in program history behind recent graduate Ciera Berthiaume '23 (43 goals, 2018-2022). Gould set a single-season record for goals in a season with 20 in 2022.
