Southern Maine Women’s Track & Field Standout Emily Artesani Walton ’10 Selected for Induction into Little East Conference Hall of Fame

Artesani Walton is the Second Huskies' Women's Track & Field Athlete Inducted into the Hall of Fame

GORHAM, Maine – Former University of Southern Maine standout Emily Artesani Walton '10 has been chosen for induction into the Little East Conference Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2023.  A member of the women's indoor and outdoor track & field teams from 2006-2010, Artesani Walton is the second alumna of the Huskies' women's track & field programs to be inducted into the Little East Conference Hall of Fame. She joins Class of 2018 inductee Kim Brewer Giger '05.

The LEC is inducting 11 individuals and one team as part of its 2023 Hall of Fame class.  Members are nominated by their alma maters and voted upon by the league's nine Athletic Directors, and includes individuals representing each Little East institution.  Arstesani Walton is joined by former USM baseball standout Tucker White '13 for this year's induction. Additionally, the Huskies' 1987-88 women's basketball team will be inducted.  The Southern Maine Department of Athletics will honor Artesani Walton with an event on campus to be announced at a later date.

Inducted into the Husky Hall of Fame in 2019, Artesani Walton's distinguished career helped establish the dominance of the Southern Maine's women's indoor and track & field programs over the Little East Conference.  During her time as a student-athlete Artesani Walton helped the Huskies to four consecutive Little East Conference championships (eight in total) in women's indoor and outdoor track and field from 2006 through 2010.

A school record holder in the 200, 400, 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 during her career, Artesani Walton still ranks in the top 10 in the 200, 400 and 500 meter events.

In addition to her numerous accolades on the track, Artesani Walton distinguished herself academically.  A graduate of USM's Honors Program, Artesani Walton earned Dean's List accolades in each of her semesters and was a four-time William B. Wise Scholar Athlete.  She earned CoSIDA Academic All-District One (second team honors) during her years as a student-athlete and graduated from Southern Maine with a degree in Psychology Magna Cum Laude.   She continued her education after Southern  Maine, and earned a Master's of Education, Curriculum and Instruction: Reading Education from the University of Virginia in 2013.
