MANSFIELD, Conn. – Senior
Nick James (Portland, Maine/Deering) scored six goals for the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a 19-8 loss to Eastern Connecticut State. James finishes the season with 47 goals to break the program record of 45 that he set last season. Eastern Connecticut State earned the final spot in the 2023 Little East Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament with the win.

How It Happened:
- The Warriors broke a 1-1 tie with three goals in the span of 1:16 to pull away from the Huskies in the first.
- Southern Maine cut the lead to 9-4 with three unanswered goals to end the first.
- In the third quarter the Huskies got within three goals before the Warriors scored five goals in the final 2:12 of the quarter.
- With the game already in hand Eastern Connecticut State added four more goals in the fourth to make the final score 19-8.
Inside The Stats:
- In addition to his six goals James had an assist for seven total points.
- Shane Haggerty, Warren Channing and Garrett Lapham scored three goals for the Warriors. Haggerty also logged three assists while Channning had two and Lapham had one.
- Quinn O'Connor scored twice and had three assists.
- Junior Schuyler Wetmore (Cumberland Center, Maine/Greely) had a goal and three assists.
- Senior Omar Contreras (Portland, Maine/Deering) had a goal and an assist.
- Rick O'Neal went 17-for-22 on face-offs as the Warriors beat the Huskies on 22-of-30 face-offs.
- O'Neal and Ryan Stocks each had 10 ground balls for the Warriors. Senior Dylan Whitney (Wells, Maine) led the Huskies with six ground balls.
- James finishes the season with new program records for goals (47), assists (36), points (83), assists per game (2.25) and points per game (5.19).
- Wetmore (38) and Contreras (34) also finished with top-10 single-season goal totals in the USM history.
- Wetmore's 27 assists and 65 points rank in the top five in program history.
- Wetmore and James each scored 11 man-up goals to tie for the team's single-season record.
