PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island – Rhode Island College combined for 26 hits over two games and starting pitchers Shaun Gamelin and Terry Murray combined for 24 strikeouts to lead the Anchorman to a Little East Conference doubleheader sweep of the University of Southern Maine Huskies Saturday afternoon at Pontarelli Field.
RIC's Cal Parrillo was 6-for-10 at the plate, while Lucas McElroy was 5-for-8 with five runs scored and two RBI to lead the Anchormen.

HOW IT HAPPENED: GM 1 – Rhode Island College 10, Southern Maine 1
- Rhode Island took a 1-0 lead early on an unearned run in the bottom of the first and led 2-0 after the third following an RBI single from Cal Parrillo to right field. The Huskies' pulled to within a run of RIC, -1, in the top of the fourth off of the bat of junior Cam Seymour (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy). Seymoure hit his fourth home run of the season with a shot to right field for his 10th RBI of 2023.
- RIC responded with two runs in the home half of the fourth, on an RBI double to right from Cole Podedworny and an RBI single to the same field from Izaiah Rivera for a 4-1 lead.
- The Anchormen broke the game open in the fifth, scoring five runs on four hits, including an RBI double from McElroy and a two-run double from Rivera.
- In the sixth and seventh, Gamelin picked up four of his 16 strikeouts before reliever Liam Dailey closed out the game. Dailey allowed a walk and no hits in the final two innings as RIC earned the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED: GM 2 – Rhode Island College 10, Southern Maine 1
- RIC scored four runs in the bottom of the first and combined for 14 hits in game two to earn the 10-1 win to complete the doubleheader sweep. Sean Heifrich and Daniel Trzepacz each had an RBI in the first as the Anchormen capitalized on a pair of USM fielding errors.
- Senior Brogan Searle-Belanger (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) drove in the Huskies' lone run of the game in the top of the second with an RBI single to right, but the Anchormen would take it back in the bottom half of the inning and go on to score five more runs.
- The Huskies had three base runners in the top of the fifth, including a double from junior Janek Lukza (South Paris, Maine/Oxford Hills) and a single from freshman Chris Quigley (Halifax, Mass./Silver Lake Regional), but were unable to put a run across.
- After the fifth, the Huskies to not have a hit or a base runner. RIC reliever Colin Gauthier pitched the final three innings. He did not allow a hit or yield a walk and struck out two.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Seymour's fourth home run of the season gives him 24 in his career. He is now tied for 10th in USM career records with five other players. USM's career record for home runs is 32 set by Pete Misiaszek (1991-1994).
