HOW IT HAPPENED vs. UWW Game 1:
  • USM took the lead in the top of the fourth on an RBI single from senior Rona Scott (Beverly, Mass.) as part of a three-hit inning for the Huskies.  Junior Belle Snyder (Epping, N.H.) led off with an infield single, and advanced to second on a ground out.  Snyder scored on Scott's single up the middle for the 1-0 lead.
  • UWW tied it up in the bottom of the fourth as Kiarra Kostroski scored on a ground out following her triple to left field. Kostroski made it 2-1 in the fifth with a fielder's choice RBI, and the Riverhawks led 3-1 in the sixth on an RBI triple to right from Grace Wickman.
  • USM had runners on first and second in the top of the seventh but did not score to extend the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. UWW Game 2:
  • Down 1-0 headed to the bottom of the sixth, Southern Maine scored twice to take a 2-1 lead.  The Huskies scored both runs on two outs. Senior Hannah Shields (Buckfield, Maine) started the rally with an infield single and was followed by a single from senior Rona Scott (Beverly, Mass.). Shields came around to score on the play as UWW committed to throwing errors. USM took the lead, 2-1, on an RBI single from Lauren Merrill (Bethel, Maine/Oxford Hills).
  • UWW tied it up in the top of the seventh, taking advantage of a Husky error and a wild pitch and a single. The Huskies had two runners on as freshman Kendall Migliorini (Salem, N.H.) collected a base hit, but were unable to put a run across the plate.
  • Following tie-breaking procedures a runner was placed on second in the eighth for UWW, and the River Hawks drew a leadoff walk.  The Huskies got a pair of outs via the strikeout before Becker knocked the two-run single.  In the home half of the inning, USM went down in order.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Merrill finished the games 4-for-6 at the plate, while Scott was 3-for-8. Each had an RBI. Scott has hit safely in seven consecutive games, and is hitting a team-best .364 (12-for-33).
