HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Southern Maine took an early lead in the top of the first as senior Tom Vesosky (Colchester, Vermont) led off 2023 with an infield single to the pitcher and junior Cam Seymour (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) drove him in with a homer to right field. However, RWU answered back in the bottom of the second with two runs of its own to tie the score up at 2-2. Christopher Flynn hit a solo homerun, while Matt Massaro had an RBI single.
  • The Huskies retook the lead, 3-2, in the top of the third. Vesosky again led off the inning with a single, and moved to second on a walk to Seymour.  USM had the bases loaded with two outs following a walk to senior Arlo Pike (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle), before senior Jonathan Wilson (East Granby, Conn.) earned the RBI after being hit by a pitch.
  • The Hawks went up 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth on back-to-back RBI doubles from Matt Massaro and Jack Morin.
  • The score remained unchanged until the top of the seventh when the Huskies scored an equalizer on a fielder's choice RBI from junior Janek Lukzsa (South Paris, Maine/Oxford Hills).  Lukzsa drove in senior Jason Komulainen (Gorham, Maine) who reached safely after being hit by a pitch, and moved to second on a walk to Pike and then to third on a single down the left field line from Anthony Poole (South Portland, Maine).
  • In the bottom half of the inning, the Hawks' Hawley scored unearned on a single from Flynn that was misplayed. Flynn delivered two more RBI in the bottom of the eighth with a single to center field, before the Hawks added the final run of the game on a wild pitch.
