Madison Chagnon (St. Albans, Vt./Rice Memorial) scored two goals and sophomore goalie
Ellie Fredenburg (Cambridge, Mass./Cambridge Rindge and Latin) made 19 saves on Saturday afternoon as the University of Southern Maine women's ice hockey team defeated New England College 3-1 in New England Hockey Conference play.

The Goaltenders: Fredenburg: 1-1-0, 19 saves, one goal allowed; Thea Joerö: 2-6-0, 30 saves, three goals allowed.
How It Happened/Inside the Boxscore:
- Chagnon weaved her way through a couple of Pilgrim defenders and ripped a high shot past Joerö for her 20th goal of the season 5:29 into the period.
- Chagnon scored again a few minutes later when she poked home the rebound of an Eryn Taber (Tewksbury, Mass./Austin Prep) shot. Taber recorded her third assist of the year on the play.
- Neither team scored in the second period. Frendenburg made 11 saves during the scoreless period while Joerö made 10 stops.
- Freshman Saige MacLeod (Dryden, ON, Canada) made the score 3-0 with her fifth goal of the season. Classmates Sydnee Chaisson (Stratford, PEI, Canada/The Mount Academy) and Olivia Stewart (Fredericton, NB, Canada/The Mount Academy) assisted on the goal.
- The Pilgrims spoiled Fredenburg's shutout attempt with an Emily Lenzen power play goal with about three minutes left on the clock.
- Frendenburg earned her first win of the season and the second of her career. Both of her career victories have come against New England.
Up Next: The Huskies will conclude the regular season with a home-and-home NEHC series with Salem State next weekend. The first game of the series will be Friday night at Salem State at 6PM.
