SALEM, Mass. – Two goals in the span of 68 seconds led the University of Southern Maine women's hockey team to a 2-1 win over Salem State on Friday night. Sophomore Madison Chagnon (St. Albans, Vt./Rice Memorial) scored a shorthanded goal early in the third followed by a Madelyn McLeish (Dedham, Mass.) goal shortly after.

The Goaltenders: Junior Haley McKim (Moncton, NB, Canada/The Mount Academy): 12-9-1, 33 saves, one goal allowed; Dana Smullen: 2-4-0, 25 saves, two goals allowed.
 
How It Happened/Inside the Boxscore:

• After a scoreless first period that featured the goalies combining for 17 saves the Vikings finally got a puck past McKim 7:18 into the second with a Makayla McGrath goal.
• Chagnon scored her 22^nd goal of the season 2:11 into the third period while the Huskies were shorthanded. The goal is her third shorthanded one of the year and matches Jessica Knight's three in 2007-08 for the program record for the most in a season.
• After the Huskies successfully killed off the penalty Madelyn McLeish (Dedham, Mass.) scored her sixth goal of the season to put Southern Maine ahead.
• Senior Maddy Young (Westford, Vt.) recorded the assist on Chagnon's goal while sophomore Jess MacLean (Red Point, NS, Canada/Rankin School of the Narrows) assisted on McLeish's.
• The game featured 10 penalties with neither team scoring on the power play.
