BOSTON, Mass. – Members of the University of Southern Maine indoor track and field team competed on the first day of the New England Division III Indoor Championships on Friday at The TRACK at New Balance in Boston. The Huskies earned team points from the 4x200 relay team and senior
Sophia Slovenski (Cape Neddick, Maine/Phillips Academy) and finished the day in ninth place.

Heaven Conley (Ogunquit, Maine/Wells) and junior
Catriona Gould (Freeport, Maine) placed fourth in their event and recorded the second fastest time in program history at 1:44.26. The school record of 1:44.20 was set by Nicole Kirk, Liz O'Neal, Deonna DaSilva and Peyton Dostie on February 21, 2015. Slovenski placed fifth in the pole vault with a season-best mark of 3.63m. She also placed 13th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.63 seconds.

In the 60-meter dash Gould narrowly missed out on advancing to finals. Gould clocked a time of 7.93 seconds and her exact time of 7.928 was 0.005 seconds away from earning the last qualifying spot for the finals. Young placed 12th in the event at 8.04 seconds.

Olivia Jalbert (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) placed ninth in the long jump (5.27m) to finish just out of scoring.

Day two of the event will begin tomorrow at 9AM and will feature more Huskies in action.
