Huskies Defeated by Beavers in Season Finale

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The University of Southern Maine men's ice hockey team was defeated by Babson College 6-2 in their final game of the season on Saturday evening.

The Goaltenders:
Nolan Hildebrand: 13-5-2, 14 saves, two goals allowed.
Sophomore Kyle Penton (Waltham, Mass./Albany Academy): 4-9-1, 10 saves, three goals allowed.
Freshman Jacob Kindestin (Barre, Vt./Champlain Valley Union): 17 saves.
Sophomore Mason Palmer (Cumming, Ga./Connections Academy): 10 saves.
 
How It Happened/Inside the Boxscore:
  • Babson scored twice in the first four minutes of play off an Ian Driscoll goal and a power play goal from Colby Bailey.
  • Sophomore Azam Jiwa (Calgary, AB, Canada/West Island College) scored 8:20 into the period to cut the lead in half with junior Austin Marini (Hyde Park, Mass./Catholic Memorial) assisting. Jiwa's goal was his third of the season while Marini took the team lead in assists with 12.
  • Bailey scored his second goal of the game a few minutes later to make the Babson lead 3-1.
  • Kindestin made his season debut in the second period and stopped the first 10 shots he faced before allowing a goal to Nolan Dion. Kindestin then made seven additional saves in the period.
  • Palmer played the third period in goal for the Huskies and made 10 saves while allowing two goals.
  • Nolan McElhaney (Natick, Mass./Long Island University) scored his fifth goal of the season in the final minute with senior Curtis Judd (Newton, Mass./Albany Academy) recording the assist. McElhaney ends the season third on the team in goals and tied for the most by a defenseman in the conference.
  • Judd finishes the season tied for second in the NEHC in goals (15) and tied for third in total points (25). Judd's 15 goals are tied for the 10th most in program history in a single season. Among the seven other Huskies tied for 10th is head coach Ed Harding who scored 15 goals in 1987-88.
  • Three Beavers had multiple points including Charlie Andriole who had two assists. Driscoll and Danny Cavanagh each had a goal and an assist.
