How It Happened:
- In a game that featured nine leads changes and eight tied scores, the Huskies were able to get the last bucket of the game to improve to 2-1 in the Little East Conference.
- Down by six, 13-7, midway through the first quarter, Southern Maine closed out the frame on a 9-0 run to take a 16-13 lead. Cote found Flanders and freshman Campbell Doughty (Ashland, Va./Hanover) for back-to-back jumpers to start the run, before Gould scored the final five points of the quarter on a three and a layup.
- Battling in a one-possession game to start the second quarter, the game was tied at 23-23 with 2:20 remaining in the half. Southern Maine made it a two-possession game, 27-23, on four consecutive points from Ramsdell but ECSU's Shania Lewis hit a layup in traffic before the buzzer sounded to keep the Warriors within a bucket, 27-25 at the break.
- After the half, the third featured another back-and-forth battle between the two teams. USM opened up a marginal 31-27 lead on an offensive rebound from Smedberg and a layup from Flanders with 6:06 on the clock; however, the Warriors answered right back with back-to-back scored from Clark and Kya Mayo to tie the game up at 31 with 4:44 showing. Both teams traded baskets to keep the game tied before Smedberg hit a pivotal three for a 36-33 Husky. Smedberg's three helped USM close out the third outscoring the Warriors 10-6 to head into the fourth with a 43-39 lead.
- Continuing to battle bucket for bucket, the Huskies led the Warriors 51-48 with 5:52 left in regulation following a pair of free throws from Flanders before ECSU rattled off a 6-0 run to take a 54-51 lead with 3:45 to play. Salato scored four of the Warriors points in the run. Gould halts the Warrior push with a layup making it a one-point game and Ramsdell tied the game up 54-54 with one of two free throws with 2:28 on the clock.
- The Warriors outscored Southern Maine 4-1 over the next minute of action to led 58-55 following a jumper from Mayo with 55 second to play. Down by three, Smedberg brought the Huskies' level with her second three-pointer of the contest. ECSU called a 30 second time out on its next possession and had two looks at a go-ahead basket with offensive rebounds, but Southern Maine's Cote came up with a steal setting up Gould's heroics. Inbounding the ball with 10 seconds to play, Gould watched the clock and drove to the right for the go-ahead bucket with two seconds to play. ECSU had a final tough look at the basketball but the Huskies defended well enough for the win.
