CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Angie Choi and Kamsi Nwogu combined for 30 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Engineers to a 63-53 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Rockwell Cage.
MIT used an 18-5 run that spanned the second and third quarters to pull away from the Huskies and earn the win. Nwogu had 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for the double-double, while Choi was 6-for-13 from the field for her 15 points. Alice Hall had eight points and 10 rebounds.

Liz Cote (Conway, N.H./Kennett) and
Tamrah Gould (Manchester, N.H./Manchester West) each had 15 points for the Huskies. Cote was 6-for-11 from the floor, including 3-for-15 for three, adding three rebounds and three assists. Gould was 6-for-13 (2-for-2 from three). Senior

Today's game marked the third meeting between the University of Southern Maine Huskies and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Engineers. MIT holds a 3-0 record in the series and won the 2022-2023 game 67-43.
How It Happened:
- In a slow start to the first quarter, MIT took a 14-11 lead in the final seconds as Elise Harvey scored on a layup and two free throws for the Engineers.
- The Huskies kept pace with the Engineers and Gould gave the Huskies a slim 17-16 lead at the 5:51 mark, canning a three to cap a 6-0 run by USM. However, MIT's Nwogu scored a layup on her team's next possession igniting a 9-2 spurt to close out the second half and give MIT a 25-19 lead at the break.
- MIT continued its run into the third outscoring the Huskies 9-3 opening up a 34-12 lead with 5:43 left in the quarter. Four free throws from the Huskies' Fleming and back-to-back threes from Cote trimmed USM's deficit to two-possessions, 41-35, with just over three minutes left on the clock, but MIT closed the third on a 10-4 run to head into the fourth up 51-39.
- The Engineers snagged their largest lead of the game, 58-42, outscoring Southern Maine 7-3 in the first three minutes of the fourth. USM used a 7-0 run to cut into the MIT lead and trail 61-53 with just over 30 seconds to play, but MIT scored the final bucket of the contest for the 63-53 win.
Inside The Stats:
- Southern Maine shot 40.0 percent from the field (20-for-50) and 50.0 percent (6-for-12) from three in the game. MIT shot 38.7 percent (24-for-62), but had 17 offensive rebounds and scored 15 points off of second chance looks.
- MIT outrebounded the Huskies 43-25 in the game.
Up Next:
The Huskies remain on the road for its next Little East Conference game and head to UMass Boston on Saturday, January 3 (5:30 pm) before hosting Western Connecticut State on Saturday, January 6 (1:00 pm). Southern Maine will then head up the road to Bowdoin College on Tuesday (4:30 pm) for a non-conference game.
