Bowdoin Holds Off Southern Maine 4-2

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College Polar Bears scored three times in the first period and held off a late comeback attempt by the University of Southern Maine Huskies on Tuesday night in a non-conference women's ice hockey contest. Elena DiMagno had a goal and an assist for the Polar Bears. Southern Maine freshman Ellie Eigner (Bowling Green, Ohio/ South Lyon East) recorded her first two career points with a goal and an assist.

Southern Maine: Haley McKim (4-3-1), 59:17, three goals allowed, 29 saves

How It Happened:
  • Bowdoin scored three goals in the first period. DiMagno scored the first goal with an assist from Sara Ito-Bagshaw. The second Polar Bear goal was scored by Bella Burghar from Gia Massari. Anyi Sun netted Bowdoin's third goal with the assists going to DiMagno and Emma Merrill.
  • Sophomore Olivia Stewart (Fredericton, New Brunswick/Mount Academy) got the Huskies on the board with her second goal of the season 2:12 in the third period.  Eigner recorded the first point of her Southern Maine career with an assist on the goal after stripping the puck from a Bowdoin player.
  • Eigner then put the Huskies within a goal with her first collegiate goal 8:02 into the period after again forcing a turnover and firing a shot past Solotaroff-Webber.
  • The Huskies comeback bid fell short as Bowdoin added an empty-net goal from Jackie Miller in the final minute.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • The Huskies killed off three penalties but could not take advantage of their own power-play opportunity.
  • Bowdoin led in faceoffs won 38-24.
  • Eigner became the 11th Husky to score a goal this season.

The Huskies will return to action on January 2 when they host the University of New England.
