Brady Saunders and Chance Dixon Earn MMBCWA Weekly Honors

GORHAM, Maine  –  Senior Chance Dixon (Lake Worth, Fla./Santaluces) and freshman Brady Saunders (Brewer, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's basketball team has each been recognized by the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association (MMBCWA) with weekly accolades.  Dixon was named the MMBCWA Player of the Week, while Saunders was named the Rookie of the Week.
 
Recently named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, Saunders averaged 14.0 points, 2.0 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.7 rebounds per game while shooting a solid 52.2 percent (12-for-23) from the field, and 38.5 percent (5-for-13) from three points range in three games.  Saunders scored a career-best 18 points in a 77-70 win over Maine Maritime to start the week, adding three assists and three rebounds.  In the Huskies first road game of the season, Saunders scored 15 points on 4-for-5 shooting, and a perfect 7-for-7 mark from the free throw line in a 87-83 win over UMaine Presque Isle. 
 
Scoring at least 20 points in three of the Huskies' four games so far this season, Dixon poured in the points in a 3-0 week for the Huskies, averaging 23.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game.  Dixon matched his career-high with 32 points in USM's 77-70 win over Maine Maritime to start the week, and then dropped 18 points in over Saint Joseph's College helping Southern Maine reclaim the Costello Cup from their in-state rival.  Dixon closed out the week scoring 20 points in an 87-83 road win at UMaine Presque Isle.
 
Southern Maine (4-0) travels to Bates College on Tuesday, November 21 (7:30 pm) for a non-conference match up.  The Huskies are back at home on November 29 (7:30 pm) against UMaine Farmington before starting the Little East Conference portion of their schedule at No. 4 Keene State on December 2 (3:00 pm)
