GORHAM, Maine – Seniors
Tamrah Gould (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Memorial) and
Franny Ramsdell (Wells, Maine) and graduate student
Megan King (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) have been tabbed captains for the 2023-2024 University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's basketball season.
Picked to finish sixth in the 2023-2024 Little East Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Huskies' are led by first-year head coach
David Chadbourne. No stranger to the sidelines, Chadbourne has nearly three decades of coaching experience, and most recently led NCAA Division II Franklin Pierce.
After a season away, King returns to the Huskies' roster as a graduate student. A three-time William B. Wise Scholar Athlete, King has played in 48 career games, averaging 1.7 points and 1.5 rebounds per game. Averaging just under 10 minutes per game in her career, she is a career 33.0 percent shooter (29-for-88). During the 2021-22 season, her last with the Huskies, she shot 32.7 percent from the field and 19.0 percent from three, averaging 2.0 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. King is pursuing a Master's degree in Teacher Leadership.
Another multiple William B. Wise Scholar Athlete recipient, Ramsdell is a four-year member of the Huskies' squad. Playing in 24 games (starting 22) as a junior, Ramsdell averaged 8.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 31.1 percent (67-for-214) from the field, including a 13-or-38 mark from three. She is a career 29.8 percent (122-for-409) shooter, and has 361 career points in 54 games. Ramsdell had a career-best 26 points against Western Connecticut for an LEC win. She earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors in 2022-2023. Ramsdell is a double major in Psychology and Business.
Averaging 7.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game in 2022-2023, Gould earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors and has been named a William B. Wise Scholar Athlete on multiple occasions as a Nursing student. Gould set career-highs in nearly every statistical category as a junior, scoring 17 points in a LEC win at Plymouth State, grabbing eight rebounds against Saint Joseph's College, and passing off five assists against Castleton.
The Huskies started their 2023-2024 campaign with a 65-53 home loss to University of New England. Southern Maine is back in action on Wednesday (5:30 pm), hosting Husson University, before traveling to Bowdoin College for the Bowdoin Coastal Classic. USM will face Whittier on Friday (7:30 pm) and Bridgewater State on Saturday (2:30 pm)
