Wolves Down Huskies in Three Sets

GORHAM, Maine – The Western Connecticut State University Wolves defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies by a score of 3-0 on Monday evening in Little East Conference women's volleyball action.

WCSU: 16-7 (5-2 LEC)
Southern Maine: 4-20 (0-7 LEC)
 
Series History:
Western Connecticut now leads the all-time series 26-0.
 
How It Happened:
  • The Wolves took the first set 25-16 behind 17 kills with six of them coming from Helen Megson.
  • Western Connecticut won 25-13 in the second set to go up 2-0.
  • Despite a strong effort by the Huskies the third set ended in the Wolves' favor 26-24 to conclude the match. The extremely competitive third set featured 10 ties and four lead changes before a late surge gave the Wolves the win.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • Megson and Julia Stoliker each had 12 kills for the Wolves. Junior Isabella Smith (Merrimack, N.H.) led Southern Maine in the category with eight.
  • Olivia Monteleone led all players in assists with 36. Senior Sierra Castonguay (Nottingham, N.H./Dover) recorded a game-high 16 digs. Sydney Slupatchuk finished just behind her with 14.
  • Senior Brianna Delloiacono (Moodus, Conn./ Nathan Hale-Ray) had six digs and six kills for the Huskies. Western Connecticut recorded 56 kills in the match.
  • Southern Maine led in aces 5-3 and each side had seven serving errors.
 
Up Next:
The Huskies will play their final home game of the season on Wednesday night at 7:00 pm against Fisher.
