UMass Boston Defeats Southern Maine in Four Sets

BOSTON, Mass. – The UMass Boston Beacons defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday evening in Boston in Little East Conference women's volleyball action. The Beacons had a strong offensive night with 42 kills and 12 aces.

Southern Maine: 4-17 (0-5 LEC)
UMass Boston: 12-7 (3-2 LEC)
 
Series History:
With tonight's win UMass Boston leads the all-time series 21-13.
 
How It Happened:
  • Southern Maine took the opening set 25-22. Each side had a dozen kills and seven attack errors in the set. Senior Brianna Delloiacono (Moodus, Conn./ Nathan Hale-Ray) accounted for a quarter of the Huskies' kills in the set with four while junior captain Isabella Smith (Merrimack, N.H.) had three kills.
  • The Beacons took the lead in the second set with a seven-point run after trailing 6-4 and never looked back on their way to a 25-17 set win to even the match at one set apiece.
  • UMass Boston hit .409 in the third set with 12 kills and just three errors to win the set 25-13.
  • The Beacons took the fourth set 25-13 to finish off the match.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • Livia Trindade and Lauren Westlund led the Beacons offense with 14 and 10 kills, respectively.
  • Delloiacono led the Huskies with nine.
  • Toni Guerra had four of UMass Boston's 12 aces.
  • Amelia Devlin had 28 assists for the Beacons and freshman Cassidy Weiher (Aurora, Colo./ Cherokee Trail) had 19 for the Huskies.
  • Senior Sierra Castonguay (Nottingham, N.H./Dover) had a game-leading 23 digs.

The Huskies will play a tri-match at Keene State College on Saturday. The Huskies will face Keene State at noon and then will play Wellesley College.
