Bates Beats Southern Maine in Straight Sets

LEWISTON, Maine – Bates College defeated the University of Southern Maine in straight sets on Tuesday evening in a non-conference women's volleyball match. Ami Evans helped set the tone for Bates with a game-high 11 kills plus eight digs and two block assists.

Series History:
Bates now leads the all-time series 68-6.
 
How It Happened:
  • The Bobcats pulled out a tight 26-24 win in the first set. Each side had three aces in the set.
  • Bates used a seven-point run to take the lead and pull away after trailing 15-13 in the second set. They then held off a late comeback attempt by the Huskies to win the set 25-21.
  • In the third set Bates got off to a 5-0 start and won the final set 25-12.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • Bates had 12 aces in the contest led by three apiece from Kate Hansen and Ellie Asada.
  • Chrissy Chu had 23 assists for the Bobcats. Freshman Cassidy Weiher (Aurora, Colo./ Cherokee Trail) recorded 18 for Southern Maine.
  • Senior Brianna Delloiacono (Moodus, Conn./ Nathan Hale-Ray) led Southern Maine in kills with nine and added three aces and seven digs.
  • Senior Sierra Castonguay (Nottingham, N.H./Dover) and junior captain Isabella Smith (Merrimack, N.H.) each had 10 digs for the Huskies.
Up Next:
The Huskies will host a tri-match on Saturday as part of Homecoming and Family Weekend. The Huskies will play Rhode Island College at noon and then face Maine Maritime Academy later in the day.
